About The Project Sponsors

A promise of sustainable living right on the airport.

His perspective

I am a software engineer by trade. My work can be done remotely given a reliable internet connection. I enjoy biking, and skiing but I am not much of an outdoor person.

Flying small airplanes is my hobby. Currently, I have to drive for 30 minutes each way to the airport. An hour spent just commuting so that I can have an hour or two of fun in the air. This is time lost.

This project will also allow us to become mostly carbon neutral (on the house, not on the airplane though). Even if the power goes down, we should be able to sustain heating, cooling and hot water on battery power fed from our solar installation.

Her perspective

I am a freelancer, so I can live and work anywhere. I love homely comforts, like a steam shower, and a comfortable couch.

The house we are building will be large, with a large garden, on an owned lot. Far enough from the city to have the costs down. Sustainable construction and energy choices can happen anywhere, but here in California going solar is a no-brainer.  It is close to shopping, good schools (not that we will have any more children) but that helps with resale value.

I also love flying in small airplanes. I am not a pilot but happy to go flying on a whim.
